At Southend Brewery & Smokehouse we’re committed to using as many locally grown ingredients as possible in the delicious entrees, appetizers and desserts that we serve. By purchasing fresh meat, fish, cheese, fruits and vegetables from local farmers and artisans, we’re able to offer dishes that are much fresher and better tasting than anything made from imported or frozen produce. Plus, we can showcase what the Lowcountry has to offer while also doing our part to strengthen the local economy.

We’re thrilled to have partnered with a local tour company that shares our interests! The folks at Charleston Culinary Tours give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at Charleston’s best restaurants, with a specific focus on highlighting local cuisine. They offer several different culinary experiences like exploring posh eateries on Upper King Street, or taking a behind-the-scenes look into the kitchens of some of the best restaurants in Charleston. Southend Brewery & Smokehouse makes its Charleston Culinary Tours debut as the first stop on their Downtown Culinary Tour, which showcases traditional southern dishes served in restaurants near the historic City Market while tour-goers learn about Charleston’s rich past.

Visitors and locals alike who are craving an up-close encounter with Charleston’s best chefs will enjoy the Chef’s Showcase at the Farmer’s Market Tour. Tours meet at the nationally acclaimed Charleston Farmer’s Market where participants pick out fresh ingredients from local vendors with their tour guide and a local chef. Then, while the guide takes the group on a tour of the Holy City, their chef prepares the freshly picked ingredients into a gourmet meal. It’s the perfect illustration of the farm-to-table concept, and it’s a great way to meet the best chefs in the Charleston area. Most of all it’s delicious!

Southend Brewery’s very own Chef Garrett is a proud participant, and we think, the very best chef featured on the Chef’s Showcase tours (but we may be a little biased!). He’s always been a proponent of using ingredients from local vendors, and has played a large part in updating our menu to include ingredients grown, raised or caught right here in the Lowcountry. We’re proud to be a part of something that draws focus to the importance of utilizing local produce!
